Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) reported that 315 foreign nationals/tourists have been rescued. Following the devastating flash floods in the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers on August 26, 2026, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), Tourist Police and other concerned agencies have intensified efforts to locate and assist foreign nationals and tourists affected by the disaster. The floods have severely affected parts of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Gorkha, with government agencies, security authorities and local administrations working together on search, rescue, evacuation and assistance operations.
315 Foreign Nationals Rescued
According to the latest situation update issued by NTB, 315 foreign nationals and tourists had been rescued as of 6:00 PM on August 31, 2026. The update also stated that five foreign nationals are currently in contact with authorities, while 583 remain out of communication. Among those in contact are three Spanish nationals, one US national, and one Belgian national. Authorities are continuing efforts to verify the whereabouts and safety of those who remain uncontacted.
Indians and Chinese Make Up Majority of Rescued Tourists
Data provided by the Tourist Police and National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) shows that Indian nationals account for the largest number of rescued foreign tourists, with 187 people rescued, followed by 108 Chinese nationals. The rescued group also includes four nationals each from Germany and Malta, two each from Italy, Russia, Turkey and the United States, and one each from Bulgaria, Oman, Portugal and Switzerland.
Search and Rescue Operations Continue
Search and rescue operations remain underway in the affected areas as authorities continue to coordinate information received from security agencies, local governments and tourism stakeholders. NTB said it is working closely with the Tourist Police, NDRRMA and other relevant agencies to facilitate verified information and provide all possible assistance to foreign nationals affected by the disaster.
Tourists Advised to Monitor Road and Weather Conditions
As the impacts of the monsoon season are expected to continue until mid-September, NTB has urged travelers to remain updated about road and weather conditions during their stay in Nepal. Tourists traveling through or toward the affected districts have been advised to check the latest conditions before beginning their journeys and strictly follow guidance issued by local authorities and security agencies.
Kathmandu–Mugling Highway Section Blocked
NTB has specifically highlighted disruption along the Kathmandu–Mugling road (Prithvi Highway) at Krishnabhir in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality, Dhading. The highway section has been completely obstructed after river erosion caused part of the road to collapse. Travelers using the route have therefore been advised to seek updated information before departure and plan their journeys accordingly.
Most Tourist Destinations Across Nepal Remain Operational
NTB has emphasized that the impact of the disaster is concentrated primarily along the Bhote Koshi–Trishuli river corridor covering Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Gorkha. Except for the affected river corridor, other tourist destinations, sites and tourism activities across Nepal remain in full operation, according to the tourism board.
The board has urged international travelers to continue their visits to Nepal while exercising appropriate caution and staying informed about local conditions. It also called for continued support and cooperation from foreign travelers and the international diplomatic community during this difficult period.

The Nepal Tourism Board expressed its sincere gratitude to the international community for the support, cooperation and solidarity extended to Nepal and the Nepali people following the disaster. NTB said it will continue coordinating with government agencies, Tourist Police, NDRRMA, tourism-sector stakeholders and other relevant authorities to provide verified updates and facilitate assistance to affected foreign nationals.
