A significant archaeological discovery has been made at the Matheshwarnath Temple in Ward 6 of Dhanusha Municipality, revealing remains dating back to the 8th and 9th centuries from the Lichchhavi period. Led by archaeologist Prakash Darnal, the Department of Archaeology commenced excavation on June 21, uncovering a treasure trove of ancient inscriptions, coins, and artifacts believed to be over a thousand years old. These findings underscore the temple’s profound historical significance.
The unearthed inscriptions and artifacts, exhibiting distinctive Lichchhavi characteristics, offer valuable insights into the cultural and historical milieu of that era.
