Persistent rainfall has disrupted air services in the Himalayan districts of Mugu, Jumla, and Humla for the past four days, causing significant inconvenience to passengers.
The continuous downpour has halted flights in Mugu, Jumla, and Humla, leaving travelers stranded and unable to reach their destinations. Hari Krishna Aidi, who had been waiting for a flight for three days, was forced to take a bus to Kathmandu on Friday. “I had no choice but to buy a bus ticket when it became clear that the weather was not going to improve,” he said.
Shreekrishna Rijal, Chief of Rara Civil Aviation Office, reported that there have been no flights from Nepalgunj due to the relentless rain. He mentioned that passengers traveling from Mugu to Nepalgunj, Surkhet, and Kathmandu, as well as those coming to Mugu from Nepalgunj and Surkhet, are stranded at the airport. The likelihood of flights today remains low due to the adverse weather conditions.
With air services disrupted, passengers are risking the journey via the Karnali Highway. Mahendra Bahadur Singh, Chief of Simkot Civil Aviation Office, confirmed that air services in Humla have been suspended for three days due to bad weather, leaving passengers stranded.
Rara, one of Nepal’s major tourist destinations, is significantly affected by the disruption. The Rara Airport, which typically sees three to four flights daily from both private and government-owned airlines, is now non-operational. The Rara Civil Aviation Office in Talcha noted that tourists who come to visit Rara Lake usually travel via air.
The continuous rainfall has not only impacted local travelers but also tourists aiming to visit the scenic Rara Lake, exacerbating the challenges posed by the weather.
