Basantapur Leads Inspiring Heritage Walk to Swayambhu on World Heritage Day

On the occasion of World Heritage Day, a heritage walk was held today from Swayambhu to Basantapur. The walk began at Bhuikhel and passed through various heritage routes, concluding at Basantapur, with participation from the Department of Archaeology, Swayambhu Management and Conservation Committee, and various cultural organizations.

Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, inaugurated the walk. He emphasized the need to preserve and promote ancient heritage and archaeological sites, stating they are key to understanding the country’s history and civilization.

The distance covered during the walk from the Swayambhunath area to Hanumandhoka Durbar Square is about three kilometers, including old temples, ponds, wells, and other cultural and heritage sites. Participants helped spread messages about the importance of heritage conservation.

To mark World Heritage Day, the Swayambhu Management and Conservation Committee also conducted a cleanup of the Swayambhunath stupa and surrounding areas. Committee Secretary Chandra Ratna Buddhacharya shared that the committee has been actively involved in preserving Swayambhu and supporting local festivals and cultural traditions.
