In the birth place of Gautam Buddha, the “Lumbini World Heritage Conference 2025” has commenced. Lumbini Province Chief Minister Chet Narayan Acharya opened the event by stressing that the birth place of Gautam Buddha is a sacred land that promotes global peace in addition to being a historic and archaeological site. In order to protect, promote, and develop Lumbini in a sustainable manner, he emphasized the necessity of collaboration between all governmental levels, interested parties, and the global community.

He asserted that “making the birth place of Gautam Buddha, a center for spirituality, research, tourism, and international peace is our collective responsibility.”

With technical assistance from the Department of Archaeology, UNESCO Kathmandu, ICOMOS Nepal, and the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, the Lumbini Development Trust is organizing the conference.

According to the Ashoka Pillar, Lumbini, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, is known historically as the birthplace of Buddha in 623 BCE. Papers on the archaeological significance, preservation, research, and pilgrimage tourism in the birth place of Gautam Buddha will be presented by national and international experts during the two-day conference. All three levels of government should develop joint action plans based on the conference’s conclusions, according to speakers at the opening session.
