Sustainable Shift: Experts Rally to Transform Sikles–Kapuche into Eco-Tourism Powerhouse

A group of six tourism experts from the Sikles–Hugu–Kapuche Highway region gathered on 2082/02/03 to deliberate on key strategies to enhance tourism development, ensure environmental sustainability, and improve infrastructure along the scenic highway corridor in Kaski district. The meeting highlighted a coordinated approach to managing tourism growth while preserving the area’s unique natural and cultural heritage.

The discussion focused on several critical aspects of tourism planning and infrastructure development, including the importance of maintaining cleanliness along the highway, assessing progress made through current road upgrade projects, and drafting actionable plans for the coming year. Participants reviewed accomplishments achieved so far and evaluated their alignment with long-term tourism goals.

One of the core subjects of the meeting was the promotion of sustainable tourism practices. Experts emphasized the need to enhance existing hiking routes in the Sikles–Kapuche region, renowned for its pristine beauty and glacier lakes, and to ensure effective waste management systems. These initiatives aim to preserve the fragile Himalayan ecosystem while improving the overall tourist experience.

The session also addressed challenges and prospects regarding hotel and lodge management on public lands. With increasing tourist footfall in the region, experts acknowledged the urgency of expanding and upgrading accommodation facilities. They discussed ways to support eco-friendly lodgings and encouraged the development of community-based homestays that reflect local culture and hospitality. To foster long-term tourism sustainability, the attendees stressed the importance of strong collaboration between the public and private sectors.

They highlighted the necessity of clear policy frameworks and community participation to ensure equitable benefits for residents. “Tourism in the Sikles–Hugu–Kapuche area holds tremendous potential, not just economically but also for cultural exchange and conservation,” one of the participants noted. “But it must be handled responsibly, with community leadership and ecological balance at the forefront.”

The meeting concluded with concrete proposals aimed at improving infrastructure, such as constructing proper signage on trekking routes, establishing primary healthcare and emergency response centers, and supporting tourism promotional campaigns. These efforts are expected to increase tourist numbers and ensure that the region’s development remains environmentally and socially responsible.

As a growing destination within Nepal’s adventure and eco-tourism map, the Sikles–Kapuche route is gaining attention from both domestic and international travelers. The tourism experts reiterated their commitment to shaping the area into a sustainable model for rural tourism development, combining natural splendor with thoughtful planning and inclusive growth.
