The national flag carrier, Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC), has announced the cancellation of its Kathmandu–Guangzhou flight scheduled for October 19, citing internal reasons.
In an official statement released on Monday, NAC spokesperson Subash Dangol informed that the flight, which was part of the airline’s regular service schedule, had to be called off due to operational considerations. He assured that all affected passengers have been managed through alternative arrangements, ensuring minimal inconvenience.

Passenger Management and Booking Details
According to NAC, the airline had successfully conducted the Kathmandu–Guangzhou–Kathmandu sector flights on October 16 and 17, carrying 68 passengers from Kathmandu to Guangzhou and 41 passengers on the return leg.
The corporation further revealed that 93 tickets had already been sold for the October 23 Kathmandu–Guangzhou flight, while 20 tickets had been booked for the October 24 Guangzhou–Kathmandu service. This data, NAC stated, demonstrates a steady rise in passenger demand for the newly introduced route.
Clarification on Media Reports
NAC’s statement also addressed recent media reports claiming the October 19 flight was canceled due to low passenger numbers. The airline firmly refuted these claims, stating that the cancellation was entirely due to internal operational reasons, not because of insufficient bookings.
“The Guangzhou route is still in its early stages of promotion, and while the destination is new for Nepal Airlines, passenger interest is steadily increasing,” the statement read. The corporation emphasized that continuous marketing and information dissemination are being carried out to familiarize travelers with this new destination and build momentum for the route.
Appeal for Support in Promoting the New Sector
As part of its broader expansion strategy, Nepal Airlines recently launched direct flights to Guangzhou, China, in an effort to strengthen air connectivity between Nepal and major Asian destinations. The corporation sees this route as a key step in boosting tourism, trade, and people-to-people exchange between the two nations.
Given the potential of the route, NAC has urged media outlets, travel agencies, and the general public to support its efforts in promoting the new sector. “We request collective cooperation in helping Nepal Airlines establish this route successfully,” the statement added.
Commitment to Reliability and Service
Nepal Airlines reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining safe, reliable, and customer-friendly services while addressing temporary challenges that may arise during route expansion. The airline noted that operational disruptions, such as the recent cancellation, are being handled with transparency and traveler care, ensuring that passengers are well informed and adequately accommodated.
As Nepal continues to strengthen its aviation network, the Kathmandu–Guangzhou connection represents a strategic gateway to one of Asia’s largest economic hubs. Despite the temporary setback, NAC remains optimistic that the route will gain traction in the coming months with continued promotional efforts and growing traveler confidence.

The cancellation of the October 19 Kathmandu–Guangzhou flight marks a short-term operational adjustment in Nepal Airlines’ expanding international schedule. The corporation reiterated that passenger safety, service quality, and long-term growth of the national carrier remain at the core of its operations.
With ongoing promotional activities and increasing passenger engagement, Nepal Airlines aims to establish the Kathmandu–Guangzhou sector as a sustainable and successful addition to its network, strengthening Nepal’s aviation and tourism footprint in the region.
