In the past year, Myagdi district has welcomed 30,000 tourists, according to the Myagdi District Police Office. The data indicates that 24,130 tourists entered the district, while 5,789 exited. The area police offices in Ghodepani and Darbang maintain detailed records of incoming and outgoing tourists.
In the fiscal year 2079/80, 29,328 foreign tourists visited Myagdi, compared to 7,926 in 2078/79. Over 90% of the tourists visiting Myagdi favor Ghodepani and Poon Hill in Annapurna Gaunpalika-6.
Tourists are drawn to Myagdi for various attractions, including Dhaulagiri and Annapurna mountain climbs, natural hot springs, Khopara, Annapurna-Dhaulagiri treks, Dhaulagiri Sanctuary, Dhaulagiri Circuit, Dhaulagiri Icefall, Todke, Rupse Waterfall, Andhagalchi, Galeshwor, and Beni Bazaar, among other religious, natural, and historical sites.
Myagdi’s roads also serve as routes to the neighboring tourist district of Mustang. Popular with tourists from the USA, France, Italy, Germany, Korea, China, India, Portugal, Australia, and the Netherlands, Ghodepani remains a favorite destination. Meena Pun, the chairperson of the Hotel Management Subcommittee in Ghodepani, highlighted that Indian tourists are also frequent visitors.
Despite a steady number of tourists compared to the previous year, expectations were not fully met. Rajan Rayamajhi, a police inspector at the District Police Office, noted that the highest number of tourists, 5,849, visited Chaitra in 2080. The monthly breakdown of tourist arrivals is as follows: 947 in Shrawan, 972 in Bhadra, 4,298 in Asoj, 4,357 in Kartik, 3,199 in Mangsir, 1,627 in Poush, 1,577 in Magh, 2,444 in Falgun, 4,175 in Baishakh, 86 in Jestha, and 388 in Ashadh.
In the fiscal year 2076/77, Myagdi saw 50,000 tourists. The numbers were 75,191 in 2075/76, 74,733 in 2074/75, 69,837 in 2073/74, and 43,632 in 2072/73. Notably, there were no tourist visits recorded in 2077/78 due to the pandemic.
