Prime Minister Sushila Karki has urged that the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) remain focused on religious and cultural duties rather than becoming a hub for political appointments. Speaking at a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Trust today, PM Karki emphasized that the appointment of political cadres is inappropriate in religious institutions.
Preserving Religious Norms and Values
The Prime Minister noted that religious organizations operate according to their own rules, traditions, and customs, which are deeply intertwined with Nepal’s native culture. “Religious organizations have their own rules and norms as well as traditional beliefs and customs. They reflect our native culture, and we should protect these norms and values,” she said, stressing the importance of maintaining the sanctity of the site.
Pashupatinath: A Global Center of Devotion
Highlighting the global significance of Pashupatinath, PM Karki remarked that the temple attracts devotees from across the world and serves as a symbol of Hindu devotion. “Pashupatinath is a place where there is devotion of Hindus across the world. So it is wrong to appoint political cadres in such organisation,” she added, underlining that religious expertise, rather than political affiliation, should guide leadership at the Trust.
Focus on Religious Leadership
The Prime Minister called for appointments to prioritize religious knowledge and devotion over political loyalty. She urged the Board to ensure that the Trust continues to preserve and promote Nepalese cultural and religious values while maintaining its integrity and autonomy.
