Lumbini Palace Resort Limited, a leading hospitality destination operating in Siyari Ward No. 5, Rupandehi, has announced a major transformation with the signing of a Hotel Management Agreement (HMA) with Marriott International. Following three consecutive years of profitable operations, the resort will now be upgraded and rebranded as Lumbini Marriott Resort & Spa, marking a historic milestone as Marriott International’s first and only presence in Nepal outside the Kathmandu Valley.

The agreement was formalized with Global Hospitality Licensing S.A.R.L. (Marriott International) in the presence of senior leadership from both organizations. Lumbini Palace Resort was represented by Chairman Mr. Deepak Pandey and Managing Director Mr. Roshan Kumar Neupane, while Marriott International was represented by Mr. Neeraj Govil (COO, Asia Pacific), Mr. Kiran Andicott (Senior Vice President, Development – South Asia), and Ms. Juhi Roy (Vice President, Development – South Asia).

The resort is also targeting to secure its official five-star operating license by the end of the current fiscal year.
Nepal’s First Water Resort with Futuristic Attractions
Lumbini Marriott Resort & Spa is being developed as Nepal’s first and only Water Resort, featuring advanced and high-tech attractions designed to redefine leisure tourism in the region. Planned highlights include:
- Musical fountains and 3D water screen shows
- Motor boating and mini cruise experiences
- Dedicated water-based restaurant and water spa facilities
These features are expected to establish the resort as a premier leisure and entertainment destination in Lumbini.
Green Certified Wellness and Eco Resort
In response to global climate challenges, the project is being developed as a Green Certified (Gold) Wellness Retreat and Eco-Resort, strictly following international standards for environmental protection, energy efficiency, and sustainable development.

The property will also operate as a multi-specialty resort, equipped with world-class sports infrastructure supporting major sports played in Nepal, positioning Lumbini as an emerging hub for Sports Tourism.

The resort will further distinguish itself as Nepal’s first Organic Five-Star Wellness Luxury Resort, promoting naturopathy and holistic human health through organic-certified practices and sustainable living concepts.

Honoring Lumbini as the birthplace of Lord Buddha, the resort will integrate a Buddha Theme Park, which will feature:

Global Expertise and Strong Management Leadership
To ensure international service standards, Mr. Vijayananmaran Sanmugam has been appointed as Vice President – Operations and Assets Development. He brings over 27 years of national and international hospitality experience. The project is also supported by a team of globally recognized consultants in management and asset development.

Destination for Conferences, Weddings and Holistic Tourism
Positioned as a flagship destination for international conferences, destination weddings, and holistic tourism, Lumbini Marriott Resort & Spa will cater to Water, Eco, Wellness, Sports, and Cultural tourism segments. Beyond tourism, the project is expected to generate employment opportunities and promote local products, contributing significantly to the regional economy.
IPO in the Pipeline
Lumbini Palace Resort Limited has also confirmed that preparations are underway for an Initial Public Offering (IPO), inviting public investment into this landmark hospitality project that aims to redefine luxury tourism in Lumbini and beyond.
