Registration has officially opened for the Everest Summiteers Summit 2026, the second annual international gathering dedicated to sustainable Himalayan mountaineering and conservation. Scheduled to take place on May 26 and 27, 2026, the summit will be hosted at The Soaltee Kathmandu, bringing together Everest summiteers, mountaineers, policymakers, scientists, conservationists, tourism stakeholders, and youth leaders from across the world.
The summit is being organized by Everest Alliance Nepal, building on the strong momentum of its inaugural 2025 edition, which successfully united more than 150 Everest summiteers and global stakeholders in Kathmandu during a record-breaking climbing season.
Building on the Success of the 2025 Summit
The first Everest Summiteers Summit, held in 2025, gained international attention for honoring legendary mountaineers while addressing urgent concerns related to Himalayan conservation. The event highlighted sustainable climbing practices, ethical tourism, and environmental responsibility, positioning Nepal as a global leader in mountain dialogue.
Encouraged by the overwhelming response, organizers have expanded the scope and ambition of the 2026 summit to respond to emerging challenges, including climate change impacts, increasing expedition pressure, and new regulatory frameworks under Nepal’s Tourism Bill 2025.
Theme Focused on Himalayan Resilience
The 2026 summit will be held under the theme “Sustainable Peaks: Innovating for Himalayan Resilience.” The two-day program will explore climate action, ethical and responsible tourism, technological innovation in mountaineering, and community empowerment, with a special focus on indigenous mountain communities such as the Sherpas.
Discussions will also address evolving regulations in Nepal’s tourism sector, including new safety and qualification requirements for climbers, and their implications for future Himalayan expeditions.
Alignment with National and Global Priorities
Organizers stated that the Everest Summiteers Summit 2026 aligns closely with Nepal’s national tourism strategy, which emphasizes eco-friendly growth, community participation, and diversification of tourism revenue through initiatives such as promoting lesser-known and “hidden” peaks.
At the international level, the summit supports global calls for mountain protection, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience, while contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by promoting sustainable livelihoods and environmental stewardship in mountain regions.
The event also aims to strengthen cross-border collaboration among Himalayan nations by encouraging joint initiatives such as coordinated mountain clean-up protocols and the use of shared technology for monitoring environmental impacts.
Vision, Mission, and Objectives
The vision of the Everest Summiteers Summit is to establish it as the leading annual international forum for sustainable Himalayan mountaineering, where historic achievements inspire innovative solutions and collective action safeguards mountain ecosystems for future generations.
Its mission is to convene a diverse group of stakeholders, including summiteers, policymakers, scientists, conservationists, and youth, to exchange knowledge, celebrate milestones, and commit to evidence-based strategies that address climate change, promote ethical tourism, empower local communities, and integrate modern technology for safer and greener expeditions.
The 2026 summit will host 25 or more expert speakers and aims to attract 400 in-person participants and over 1,000 virtual attendees. Organizers also plan to secure 15 or more formal commitments for conservation projects such as waste audits on climbing routes, youth-led reforestation programs, and improved expedition safety standards.
Emphasis on Inclusion and Innovation
Special sub-objectives include achieving 40 percent youth participation, ensuring 50 percent gender balance among speakers, and incorporating VR and AR technologies to provide immersive education on Himalayan conservation. These efforts are designed to promote inclusivity, innovation, and long-term engagement among younger generations.
An impact report documenting outcomes and commitments from the summit will be released by December 2026.
Registration Details Announced
Organizers have confirmed that Everest summiteers can attend the summit free of charge, with no registration fee required.
For non-Everest summiteers, the registration fees are structured as follows:
- December 15 – January 1: USD 30
- January 2 – March 30: USD 60
- On-site registration (from March 31 onward): USD 100
With registration now open, organizers have invited interested participants from Nepal and abroad to secure their place early for this landmark global dialogue on the future of the Himalayas.
