TAAN Appoints Col. Subash Thapa (Retd.) as Race Director for KITM-2026

The Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) has announced the appointment of Col. Subash Thapa (Retd.) as the Race Director for the Kathmandu International Trail Marathon (KITM)–2026, scheduled to be held on 25 April 2026 in the Kathmandu Valley.

A retired Colonel of the Nepal Army, Col. Thapa, is a seasoned ultramarathon runner and a highly respected technical expert in trail running and endurance sports. With years of experience in long-distance trail events and event management, his appointment is expected to further strengthen the technical standards, safety protocols, and overall international profile of KITM.

TAAN stated that Col. Thapa’s leadership and deep understanding of trail racing will play a key role in delivering a world-class marathon experience for both national and international runners participating in the 2026 edition.

Iconic Trail Route Across Kathmandu Valley

The Kathmandu International Trail Marathon 2026 will showcase the natural, cultural, and spiritual landmarks of the Kathmandu Valley. The race will begin at Swoyambhunath and pass through Jamacho, Fulbarigate, Mudkhu Bhanjyang, Tarakeshwor, Gurjebhanjyang, Dandagaon/Shivapuri Hill, Nagi Gomba, and Helipad, before concluding at Boudhanath/Pashupatinath.

The route is designed to offer runners a unique blend of challenging trails, scenic mountain terrain, forested paths, and heritage sites, reinforcing KITM’s reputation as one of Nepal’s premier international trail running events.

TAAN expressed confidence that under Col. Thapa’s direction, KITM-2026 will set new benchmarks in trail marathon organization while promoting Nepal as a global destination for adventure sports and endurance racing.
