Hotel Sabrina Undergoes Major Transformation into Five-Star Luxury Destination

Hotel Sabrina Limited has announced an ambitious plan to upgrade its existing property into a full-fledged five-star hotel, marking a significant investment in Nepal’s growing hospitality sector. The redevelopment project, estimated at a total cost of NPR 2 billion (NRs 2 arba), aims to redefine premium accommodation standards in the capital while catering to the rising demand for high-end tourism infrastructure.

Major Investment Backed by Equity and Bank Financing

The project is being financed through a balanced funding structure, with NPR 1.13 billion raised through equity investment and NPR 870 million secured as a loan from Everest Bank Limited. This financial model reflects strong confidence from both promoters and the banking sector in the long-term viability of Nepal’s luxury tourism market.

According to Hotel Sabrina Limited officials, the investment will be directed toward expanding facilities, enhancing architectural design, and incorporating international hospitality standards. The redevelopment represents one of the most significant private-sector hotel upgrades currently underway in the Kathmandu Valley.

Expanded Capacity and Premium Guest Experience

Upon completion, the upgraded property will feature 110 keys, nearly doubling its current capacity. Each room will offer an average size of 30 square meters, designed to provide spacious, modern, and comfortable accommodation tailored to both leisure and business travelers.

The hotel’s design will integrate contemporary aesthetics with elements inspired by local culture, creating an environment that appeals to international guests while maintaining a distinct Nepali identity. Developers emphasize that the focus is not only on increasing room inventory but also on elevating the overall guest experience through high-quality materials, advanced technology, and personalized services.

Diverse Dining Options and Landmark Rooftop Venue

A major highlight of the redevelopment is its food and beverage offering. The Hotel Sabrina Limited will include three standalone restaurants serving a variety of cuisines, alongside what is expected to be one of the largest rooftop restaurants in the city. This signature rooftop venue will operate under a franchise agreement with an internationally renowned brand, bringing global culinary recognition to the property.

Hospitality analysts note that rooftop dining experiences have become increasingly popular among urban travelers, offering panoramic views, social appeal, and premium positioning, factors likely to enhance the hotel’s competitiveness in Kathmandu’s luxury segment.

Strategic Location Near the Capital’s Main Gateway

The Hotel Sabrina Limited is located approximately nine kilometers from Tribhuvan International Airport, providing convenient access for international visitors while remaining slightly removed from the congestion of the city center. This positioning allows the property to offer a quieter, resort-like atmosphere without sacrificing connectivity to major tourist, diplomatic, and commercial hubs within Kathmandu.

Industry experts consider such peripheral urban locations increasingly attractive for upscale hotels, as they allow for larger developments, enhanced amenities, and a more relaxed guest environment.

Project Timeline and Vision for Completion

Construction and upgrading work is expected to be completed within 15 months, after which the property will be relaunched as a five-star destination. The management believes this timeline is achievable due to careful planning, phased development strategies, and collaboration with experienced consultants and contractors.

Once operational, Hotel Sabrina Limited is projected to attract a mix of international tourists, corporate travelers, and high-end domestic guests. The addition of large dining spaces and upgraded event facilities is also expected to strengthen its position in Kathmandu’s meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) market.

From Tourist-Standard Hotel to Luxury Landmark

Established in August 2018 and operational since June 2019, Hotel Sabrina Limited currently runs a single-property tourist-standard hotel with 60 keys, including 12 serviced apartments, along with three banquet halls. Over the past few years, it has built a reputation for personalized service and boutique-style hospitality, laying the groundwork for its transition into the luxury category.

Chairperson Nirajan Thapa, who holds an approximate 49 percent stake in the company as of July 2025, has played a central role in steering the expansion strategy. Under his leadership, the company is seeking to capitalize on Nepal’s post-pandemic tourism recovery and the increasing influx of high-spending travelers seeking premium accommodation.

Boost to Nepal’s High-End Tourism Infrastructure

The upgrade comes at a time when Nepal is witnessing renewed investment in quality tourism infrastructure aimed at attracting upscale international markets. Stakeholders believe that expanding five-star inventory is essential for positioning the country as not only an adventure destination but also a refined hospitality hub capable of hosting global travelers, conferences, and luxury experiences.

With its planned transformation, Hotel Sabrina is poised to emerge as a landmark development that reflects the evolving aspirations of Nepal’s tourism industry, combining international standards, strategic investment, and locally rooted hospitality to meet the expectations of a new generation of travelers.
