Devotees Flock to Pashupatinath on the Second Monday of Shrawan

Today marks the second Monday of the month of Shrawan, and Pashupatinath Temple has been thronged by devotees since early morning.

It is customary for devotees to observe fasts and offer milk and water at Shiva temples every Monday during the month of Shrawan. There is a religious belief that performing these rituals fulfills one’s desires.

Mondays in Shrawan are considered highly auspicious. This year, there are four Mondays in the month of Shrawan. On each of these Mondays, men and women observe fasts and worship Lord Shiva with great devotion.

Crowds of devotees dressed in green, yellow, and red attire can be seen at various Shiva temples such as Pashupatinath in Kathmandu, Doleshwor in Bhaktapur, Kumbheshwor in Lalitpur, Devghat in Chitwan, and Halesi in Khotang, among other places.

Significant numbers of saffron-clad Bolbam pilgrims also visit the Shiva temples. These pilgrims carry pure water on foot from Sundarijal in Kathmandu to offer at Pashupatinath.
