American endurance athlete and mountain runner Tyler Andrews has set a new world record on Mount Everest (8,848.86 metres) by climbing from Everest Base Camp to the summit in less than 10 hours with supplemental oxygen support, according to expedition organiser Asian Trekking.

Fastest Oxygen-Assisted Everest Ascent
Tyler reached the summit of the world’s highest mountain at 5:06 a.m. local time on May 28 after leaving Everest Base Camp at 7:11 p.m. on May 27. He completed the ascent in an extraordinary 9 hours and 55 minutes, establishing the fastest known time (FKT) for an oxygen-assisted climb from base camp to summit.
Dawa Steven Sherpa, Managing Director of Asian Trekking, confirmed that the American climber surpassed the previous Everest base camp-to-summit oxygen-assisted FKT record of 10 hours and 56 minutes set by renowned Nepali climber Lakpa Gelu Sherpa in 2003.
“With the ascent, Andrews has broken the previous Everest base camp–to–summit oxygen-assisted FKT record of 10 hours and 56 minutes, set by Lakpa Gelu Sherpa in 2003,” Dawa Steven said.
Sixth Attempt Brings Historic Success
According to the expedition organiser, Tyler finally achieved the historic milestone on his sixth attempt over the past two years. The athlete had earlier attempted to break the record without using supplemental oxygen but later decided to make the climb with oxygen support. “The climber is now descending safely from the South Summit, and the weather is very fair,” Dawa Steven informed following the successful ascent.
