Chinese climber and social media influencer Yan Chunqi, popularly known as “Cookie,” successfully scaled Sagarmatha (Mt Everest) without using supplemental oxygen this afternoon, according to expedition organiser 14 Peaks Expeditions.

Successful Oxygen-Free Summit Push
Tashi Lakpa Sherpa, Chief Executive Officer of 14 Peaks Expeditions, confirmed that Cookie reached the summit of the world’s highest mountain at around 1:00 pm along with other members of the climbing team.
“Cookie, the 31-year-old athlete, successfully made it to the top without using bottled oxygen support,” Tashi Lakpa said. The climber was guided to the summit by experienced Nepali climber Dorchi Sherpa during the challenging ascent.
Another Climber Turns Back
Meanwhile, another climber attempting an oxygen-free ascent, American mountaineer Justin Sackett, abandoned his summit bid after feeling unwell above the Balcony area on Everest. “Justin is now descending to South Col safely after abandoning his summit bid,” Tashi Lakpa shared.

Growing Achievement in High-Altitude Climbing
Climbing Mount Everest without supplemental oxygen is considered one of the most demanding achievements in mountaineering due to the extremely low oxygen levels near the summit. Cookie’s successful ascent adds another notable accomplishment to the ongoing spring climbing season on Everest.
