The mortal remains of the 15 Indian tourists who lost their lives in a tragic speedboat accident off Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Island have been brought back to India, the Embassy of India in Vietnam confirmed. According to the embassy, the bodies were transported from Ho Chi Minh City to Mumbai on a Vietnam Airlines flight. The respective state governments of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu will now coordinate the transportation of the deceased to their hometowns for final rites.
Embassy Expresses Gratitude to Vietnamese Authorities
The Indian Embassy expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Vietnam and local authorities for their support during the rescue, recovery, and repatriation process. In a statement shared on social media, the embassy said the compassion, assistance, and presence of the Vietnamese authorities provided strength to the bereaved families during an extremely difficult time. It also acknowledged the coordinated efforts that enabled the swift return of the victims to India.
Speedboat Capsized During Tourist Excursion
The tragedy occurred on Friday when a speedboat carrying 32 tourists from India and four Vietnamese crew members capsized off the coast of Phu Quoc Island, a popular tourist destination in southern Vietnam. The accident claimed the lives of 15 Indian tourists, while 16 survivors have safely returned to India following medical treatment and necessary formalities.
One Tourist Continues to Receive Treatment
According to the Indian Embassy, one Indian tourist who was injured in the accident remains hospitalized in Vietnam and is continuing to receive medical care. Indian authorities are closely coordinating with Vietnamese officials regarding the tourist’s treatment and well-being. The repatriation of the victims marks the conclusion of a coordinated operation involving Indian diplomatic officials, Vietnamese authorities, airlines, and state governments. Authorities in India are expected to continue providing assistance to the affected families as they mourn the loss of their loved ones.
