The Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) has extended its partnership agreement with Sanasa Kyangjuma Milijuli Samuha (SKMS), strengthening community-level collaboration for environmental conservation and waste management in the Everest region. As part of the renewed partnership, SKMS, in coordination with SPCC, organized a community cleanup campaign in Sanasa and Kyangjuma, collecting a total of 43 kilograms of waste.
Cleanup Campaign Collects 43 Kg of Waste
The collected waste included 36 kg of burnable waste, 3 kg of tin and cans, and 4 kg of PET bottles. The campaign brought together community members and local stakeholders to promote responsible waste management and maintain cleaner surroundings in the region. Such community-led initiatives are particularly important in areas that receive significant numbers of trekkers and visitors.
Site Inspection for New Environmental Station
Alongside the cleanup campaign, representatives from SPCC and SKMS conducted a site inspection for the construction of a new Environmental Station (ES). The proposed Environmental Station will be supported through the Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Foundation (TNSF) project and is expected to strengthen local environmental management efforts. The planned station will provide an additional platform for supporting waste management and environmental conservation activities in the area.
Community Participation Highlighted
SPCC expressed its appreciation to the local community members for their active participation in the cleanup campaign. The organization also acknowledged the Tenzing Norgay Sherpa Foundation for its continued support toward the construction of the new Environmental Station.
