Electricity Reaches Myagdi Tourist Destination, Boosting Access to Remote Areas

Electricity services have been extended to Aaldanda, a tourist destination in Annapurna Rural Municipality-8 of Myagdi district, with the expansion of the national power grid to the area. The electricity extension is expected to improve living conditions for local communities while also supporting tourism development in the remote destination.

National Grid Extended to Aaldanda

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) extended the power transmission line from Ramche to Aaldanda under its Ujyalo Myagdi electrification program. The expansion brings grid electricity to Aaldanda, where the lack of reliable power had previously limited local development and tourism-related activities.

Electricity to Reach More Remote Settlements

According to Satyanarayan Gami, Chief of the Nepal Electricity Authority’s Myagdi Distribution Centre, electricity will soon be extended to several other settlements that currently remain without access to the national grid. The areas scheduled for electricity expansion include Moharedanda, Phulbari, Dandakharaka and Kalibaraha. The NEA has said the expansion will help connect more communities to reliable electricity services and support development in remote parts of the district.

Supporting Tourism Development

Moharedanda, Phulbari, Dandakharaka, Kalibaraha and the Annapurna-Dhaulagiri area are recognized as tourism destinations in Myagdi. Extending electricity to these locations could contribute to improving the overall visitor experience and creating better conditions for tourism-related businesses. Reliable electricity can support accommodation facilities, restaurants, communication services, lighting, charging facilities, and other basic infrastructure required by tourists and local tourism entrepreneurs.

Infrastructure and Tourism Go Hand in Hand

The expansion of electricity infrastructure is particularly important for remote destinations, where limited basic services can discourage tourists and restrict the growth of local businesses. With improved access to electricity, tourism destinations in the Annapurna region could gradually develop better hospitality and visitor services while local communities gain greater opportunities to participate in tourism-related economic activities.

A Step Toward Sustainable Destination Development

The expansion of the national power grid to Aaldanda and other tourism areas represents an important step toward improving infrastructure in Myagdi. Better access to basic utilities, combined with improved roads, communication, and tourism facilities, can help remote destinations attract more visitors and develop as sustainable tourism hubs. The continued expansion of electricity services is therefore expected to benefit both local communities and the tourism sector by creating a stronger foundation for development in Myagdi’s emerging destinations.
