The country is currently experiencing the effects of the monsoon winds, with the monsoon trough positioned near its average location, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Weather Forecasting Division.
This morning, the Bagmati and Gandaki provinces saw generally to completely overcast skies, while the remaining areas experienced partial to generally cloudy conditions. Light to moderate rainfall was recorded in some areas of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as at a few locations in other provinces.
For Sunday afternoon, the weather is expected to remain partially to generally cloudy across the country. There is a possibility of light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in some parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, with a few locations in Madhesh Province also likely to experience similar conditions. Additionally, heavy rainfall is expected in one or two locations in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
During the night, the weather will remain partially to generally cloudy across the country. Light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms, is likely in some parts of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, and in a few locations in Koshi and Bagmati provinces. Heavy rainfall is also possible in one or two locations in Koshi, Madhesh, Gandaki, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, heavy rainfall was recorded in some parts of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces over the past 24 hours.
In the Kathmandu Valley, heavy rainfall caused water levels in the Bagmati and Bishnumati rivers to rise, as reported by the Flood Information Center.
Notably, Budhanilkantha in Kathmandu received 96.8 millimeters of rainfall. Similarly, the Gobare Center in Sindhupalchok recorded 93 millimeters of rainfall, while the Dumkoli Center in Nawalparasi saw 102.8 millimeters, and Simara Airport in Bara received 103.6 millimeters.
Heavy rainfall was also recorded at the Garbh Darbar center in Kailali, with 80.8 millimeters in the last 24 hours. Additional significant rainfall measurements include 78.6 millimeters at the Manusmara Center in Sarlahi, 78 millimeters at the Pakarnas Center in Solukhumbu, and 72.6 millimeters at the Maheshpur Center in Rautahat.
