Aeromexico and Delta Air Lines are expanding air connectivity between the United States and Mexico with the launch of a new daily nonstop service linking Portland International Airport (PDX) in Oregon with Mexico City International Airport (MEX). Operating under the airlines’ cross-border Joint Cooperation Agreement, the new route is scheduled to begin in January 2027, providing passengers with a direct connection between the two cities and additional travel options across the region.
The service will begin with flights departing Mexico City on January 21, 2027, followed by departures from Portland on January 22. The year-round daily operation will be operated by Aeromexico in coordination with Delta, strengthening the airlines’ partnership and expanding their combined network offerings for travellers. The new connection is expected to provide greater convenience for passengers travelling between the Pacific Northwest and Mexico’s capital. It will also offer travellers departing from Portland access to onward connections through Mexico City to destinations across Mexico, Central America and South America.

Daily Nonstop Flights to Begin in January 2027
Under the announced schedule, Aeromexico’s Mexico City–Portland service will operate daily throughout the year. Flights from Mexico City will depart at 16:15 local time and arrive in Portland at 20:00. In the opposite direction, Aeromexico flights will leave Portland at 09:30 and reach Mexico City at 17:00 local time. The new schedule establishes a direct air link between Portland and Mexico City, one of Latin America’s major aviation hubs.
Passengers will be able to travel between the two cities on Aeromexico’s nonstop service without requiring an intermediate stop, offering an additional option for business, leisure and other travel purposes. The airline is scheduled to commence operations in both directions on consecutive dates, with the first flight from Mexico City departing on January 21 and the first flight from Portland on January 22, 2027. Its daily, year-round frequency is intended to provide consistent connectivity rather than a limited seasonal operation.

Aeromexico to Operate Flights in Coordination with Delta
Aeromexico will operate the new flights as part of its cooperation with Delta Air Lines under their cross-border Joint Cooperation Agreement. The arrangement allows the two airlines to coordinate services and provide passengers with access to a broader range of travel options across their networks. Through the partnership, eligible passengers will be able to earn and redeem miles across both SkyTeam partner airlines. Travellers will also have access to codeshare itineraries, making it easier to plan journeys involving connecting flights operated by either carrier.
The cooperation is particularly relevant for passengers travelling beyond the two cities. Rather than serving only as a direct link between Portland and Mexico City, the route will connect with the airlines’ wider networks, providing additional itinerary options for passengers travelling across international markets. The partnership also strengthens the airlines’ ability to combine their respective networks and offer coordinated travel opportunities. For passengers, this can provide greater flexibility when arranging journeys that involve multiple destinations or connections.

Mexico City Connections to Expand Travel Options
Mexico City will serve as the main connecting point for passengers travelling onward from Portland to other destinations. Aeromexico’s hub at Mexico City International Airport provides access to destinations across Mexico, Central America and South America, allowing travellers to connect beyond the new nonstop route. The morning departure from Portland, scheduled for 09:30, is designed to support onward travel through Mexico City.
Passengers arriving in the Mexican capital at 17:00 will be able to use the airport as a connection point for journeys to other destinations, subject to individual flight schedules and connection availability. The new route will also provide travellers from Mexico with a direct option to reach Portland, expanding access between the Mexican capital and Oregon’s largest city. The year-round daily frequency will give passengers greater choice when planning trips for leisure, business and other purposes.

Portland Route Part of Wider Aeromexico Network Expansion
The Portland announcement comes alongside plans for two additional nonstop routes from Mexico City to the United States, with services to Orange County through John Wayne Airport (SNA) and Fort Lauderdale International Airport (FLL) also scheduled to begin in January 2027. Together, the three route announcements represent an expansion of Aeromexico’s nonstop connections between Mexico City and U.S. destinations. The additions will provide more direct travel options while strengthening the airline’s network links between the two countries.
For Portland, the new service will establish a nonstop connection with Mexico City, with onward access to a wider range of destinations through the airlines’ partnership. The development also highlights the role of airline cooperation in expanding international connectivity and creating additional travel opportunities. With daily operations planned throughout the year, the Portland–Mexico City route is expected to become a new option for passengers travelling between the Pacific Northwest and Mexico, while supporting broader connections across the Americas.
