Tanahun’s Vyas Municipality-11, located in Tanahunsur, is gearing up to launch commercial paragliding operations after six years of successful trials. The initial test flight was conducted in March 2019, and now, preparations are in full swing to begin regular paragliding services.
Chief Administrative Officer Kashiram Gairhe of Vyas Municipality stated that they have requested recommendations to officially commence paragliding operations, which will involve takeoff from Tanahunsur and landing in Beltari, within the same ward.
He mentioned that the ward office had recommended this site for tourism promotion, and experts conducted a thorough investigation, concluding that the location was suitable for paragliding. A meeting, including local stakeholders, will finalize the decision to proceed with the operations.
Former Ward Chairperson Nir Bahadur Khadka, who played a key role in initiating the paragliding project, expressed his satisfaction with the progress. “During my tenure, we conducted the initial paragliding trials here. Now, we are on the verge of officially registering and commencing commercial operations,” he said, adding that a community meeting was held to decide on the launch.
Current Ward Chairperson Dal Bahadur Dura highlighted that the introduction of paragliding will significantly contribute to the overall tourism development of Vyas Municipality. The first test flights were carried out by Raju Acharya, Shankar Parajuli, and Narayan Parajuli of Team Five Paragliding Company from Pokhara six years ago.
The paragliding site is located about five kilometers from the Prithvi Highway’s Ghasi Kuwa section and an additional three to four kilometers from there. Some homes in the area are already offering homestay services, and resident Sanjay Shrestha believes that combining paragliding with homestay options could further boost the development of the region.
With the launch of commercial paragliding, Vyas Municipality is poised to become a new hub for adventure tourism, attracting both domestic and international visitors.
