Minister Pande Acknowledges Sherpas’ Role in Promoting Sagarmatha Globally

Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pande, has praised the courage and contributions of Sherpas in bringing global recognition to Sagarmatha (Mount Everest). Speaking at a special event organized by Khijidemba Rural Municipality of Okhaldhunga district at Boudhha, Kathmandu, on Sunday, Minister Pande highlighted the pivotal role Sherpas have played in mountain climbing and promoting the world’s highest peak.

“Mountain climbing has become more accessible and successful thanks to the contributions of Sherpas, from fixing ropes on the mountains to guiding climbers to the summit,” Minister Pande noted during the ceremony.

The event was held to honor Everest summiteers from Khijidemba, where 46 Sherpas were recognized for their successful ascents of Sagarmatha. Among those honored were Jambale Sherpa, the youngest climber from Okhaldhunga district, and Jangbu Sherpa, who has summited Everest an impressive 22 times.

During the ceremony, Kunga Sherpa was appointed as the Goodwill Ambassador of Khijidemba Rural Municipality, further highlighting the Sherpa community’s significant contributions to mountaineering and tourism in Nepal.
