Tender Opened for Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve’s First Hunting Season of the Year

Tender Opened for Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve’s First Hunting Season of the Year

The Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve has announced a tender for the first hunting season of this year, set to begin in October. The Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation has opened the tender for hunters interested in participating in the upcoming season.

Birendra Prasad Kandel, Chief of the Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve Office in Baglung, stated that the tender for the first season includes permits for hunting 12 blue sheep, 8 Himalayan tahr, and 11 wild boars. The tender process will last for 15 days, and once all procedures are completed, hunting will commence from next month.

Kandel noted that due to the high costs and adventurous nature of the activity, many foreign hunters are attracted to the various blocks within the Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve. The organization awarded the tender will be responsible for guiding both Nepali and foreign hunters to Dhorpatan.

The hunting reserve operates in two seasons annually: the first season from October to December and the second from February to April. Last year, the reserve generated revenue of NPR 44.81 million from hunting activities.

Spanning across Baglung, Eastern Rukum, and Myagdi districts, the reserve is divided into seven blocks: Sundaha, Seng, Dogadi, Barse, Fagune, Surtibang, and Ghustung. The reserve is home to 32 species of mammals, including blue sheep, Himalayan tahr, and the Himalayan black bear. It also hosts 164 species of birds, including rare and protected species such as the Danphe, Monal, and Cheer pheasant, according to the Hunting Reserve Office.
