The Panch Pokhari Women’s Marathon is scheduled to take place on Kartik 2 (approximately mid-November) in Panch Thangpal. The event will kick off from the scenic Panch Kund and cover a distance of 28 kilometers to Raithane. Maya Gurung, advisor to the organizing body Bishwa Samavesh Sahayak Sanstha, announced the details of the marathon.
The marathon aims to encourage participation from both local and international women runners. The first-place winner will receive a cash prize of NPR 50,000, along with a shield, medal, and certificate. Additionally, prizes will be awarded to the second, third, fourth, and fifth-place finishers, with respective cash rewards of NPR 25,000, NPR 15,000, NPR 10,000, and NPR 5,000, along with similar accolades.
To participate, Nepali women will need to pay a registration fee of NPR 500, while international participants will be charged USD 5. Alongside the marathon, a Mass Trekking event will also take place, promoting the motto, “Let’s go trekking at least once a year to promote tourism.”
Participants in the Mass Trekking will be required to pay NPR 13,500 for Nepali residents and USD 200 for foreign participants. This trekking event has been organized to cater to those looking to travel during the Dashain and Tihar festivals.
With this initiative, the organizers hope to not only encourage sportsmanship among women but also to promote the beautiful landscapes of Nepal and boost local tourism.
