Tourism promoter Professor Wolfgang Georg Arlt, renowned for his efforts to attract tourists from various countries to China, has been appointed as the Goodwill Ambassador and Expert Advisor of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Nepal Chapter. This was announced by PATA Nepal through an official statement.
Professor Arlt, who is the founder of the China Outbound Tourism Research Institute, has been recognized by PATA Nepal for his contributions to promoting outbound tourism in China. His honorary position was confirmed during a recent executive committee meeting of PATA Nepal, which acknowledged the growing potential of Chinese outbound tourism to Nepal.
Expressing joy over Arlt’s appointment, Khem Lakai, Chairman of the PATA Nepal Chapter, said, “We are delighted to appoint Professor Arlt as our Goodwill Ambassador. His vast expertise, knowledge, and extensive network, along with decades of experience, will greatly contribute to Nepal’s tourism sector. His guidance will further enhance our tourism promotion and research initiatives.”
Lakai emphasized his confidence in Arlt’s ability to attract more tourists to Nepal, not only from China but from across the globe. “Nepal offers a unique experience with its breathtaking natural beauty, diverse cultural attractions, and warm hospitality,” he said. “This makes it an ideal destination for visitors from China and other countries.”
Professor Arlt first visited China in 1978. Since then, he has witnessed China’s remarkable transformation into the world’s second-largest economy, driven by open and progressive policies. Starting his career as a tour operator bringing German tourists to China, Arlt later led Chinese trade delegations in Europe. He went on to become an academic, teaching international tourism management in China, Germany, the UK, and New Zealand. Arlt has also organized numerous conferences, exhibitions, and other events related to China, as noted in PATA Nepal’s statement.
This strategic appointment is expected to strengthen Nepal’s tourism efforts, particularly in attracting more Chinese tourists, who represent a significant potential market for the country’s tourism industry.
