CAAN Reverses Suspension of Senior Captain Bijay Lama Following Fine

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has revoked the suspension of Senior Captain Bijay Lama from Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) after imposing a fine of Rs 25,000 for allegedly violating aviation safety regulations. Captain Lama, a senior pilot responsible for Airbus A330 ‘wide-body’ aircraft, was grounded two weeks ago following accusations of taking photographs in restricted airport areas.

Gyanendra Bhul, CAAN’s information officer, clarified the decision: “According to the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority Act 2053 BS, there is a specific provision prohibiting photography in restricted airport zones. Violators are subject to a fine of Rs 25,000.” Bhul added that the fine imposition on Captain Lama was finalized after careful consideration and adherence to legal procedures. The lifting of Captain Lama’s suspension underscores CAAN’s commitment to upholding aviation safety protocols while ensuring fair adjudication of alleged infractions within Nepal’s aviation sector.
