AI and Digital Tourism Training Launched to Boost Nepal’s Trekking Sector

To modernize tourism promotion in Nepal, a four-day training program titled “Digital Tourism Promotion and AI Training for Trekking Agency Operators” has commenced in Kathmandu. The program is organized by the Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) in collaboration with the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) under its Sustainable Tourism Project.

The training, held at a prominent hotel in the capital, seeks to equip trekking operators and office staff with the latest tools and techniques in digital marketing and artificial intelligence (AI) to elevate Nepal’s trekking and tourism sector to new heights.

Practical Training for Tourism Professionals

A total of 30 participants, including trekking business owners and administrative staff, are taking part in the program. According to Ramchandra Sedhain, Chief Executive Officer of TAAN, the training focuses on practical applications of AI in online tourism promotion, digital marketing, content creation, online campaign management, digital branding, travel information management, and customer service automation.

The program aims to provide participants with hands-on experience in leveraging AI to streamline daily operations, enhance online visibility, and promote Nepal’s trekking services effectively in a competitive global tourism market.

AI: Transforming Tourism Promotion

Trainer Suman Baral emphasized the importance of adopting AI in today’s fast-paced tourism industry. He highlighted that integrating AI tools would significantly enhance the competitiveness of Nepal’s trekking and tourism sector by automating repetitive tasks, improving customer engagement, and optimizing marketing campaigns. Baral stated, “Using AI in tourism promotion is not just a technological upgrade; it is essential for Nepal to stay competitive in the global market and attract international travelers.”

Participants Praise the Program

Participants expressed optimism about the practical benefits of AI in their daily work. Salona Dhungana, a trainee, remarked that AI could drastically simplify tasks that were previously time-consuming, making operations more efficient. “The speed and effectiveness of work with AI are worlds apart compared to traditional methods,” she noted.

Another participant, Rishi Prasad Nepal, shared that he learned about AI applications beyond the basic tools he had been using. “I gained knowledge on how to promote my company digitally, manage campaigns effectively, and automate customer email responses,” he said.

Similarly, Ritika Dhamala highlighted that traditional promotional methods are no longer sufficient in the modern digital era. She believes that integrating AI into Nepal’s tourism marketing can significantly increase tourist arrivals and showcase the country’s trekking offerings on an international platform.

Organizers expect that participants will be able to improve internal workflow, present trekking packages more attractively to international markets, and enhance competitiveness using AI tools.
