He emphasised the importance of collaborative initiatives in these areas to deepen mutual understanding, enhance tourism exchanges and contribute to the sustainable development of the tourism industries of both countries.

The discussions also focused on the potential for developing stronger tourism linkages and creating opportunities for visitors from both sides to experience the cultural, spiritual and natural heritage of Nepal and Sichuan.

Nepal Highlights Proximity and Direct Travel Potential

Hikmat Singh Ayer, Officiating Chief Executive Officer of the Nepal Tourism Board, said Nepal could become a popular destination for travellers from Sichuan Province due to its geographical proximity and convenient air connectivity.

He noted that Nepal is only a short flight away, making it a potentially attractive destination for Sichuan residents seeking international travel experiences.

The close geographical distance, combined with Nepal’s rich cultural heritage, Himalayan landscapes, Buddhist sites and adventure tourism opportunities, could help strengthen the flow of visitors from Sichuan to Nepal.

FAM Tours Proposed to Attract More Chinese Visitors

During the meeting, Ayer also recommended organising familiarisation (FAM) tours for Chinese celebrities, media professionals, bloggers and other influential content creators.

He said such initiatives could be an effective strategy for showcasing Nepal’s unique tourism products and destinations to the Chinese market.

By allowing influential Chinese travellers and media representatives to experience Nepal firsthand, the country could increase destination awareness and encourage more Chinese tourists to visit Nepal.

Nepal Seeks to Strengthen Chinese Tourism Market

China remains an important tourism market for Nepal, with significant potential for growth in cultural, spiritual, adventure and nature-based tourism.

Nepal offers a wide range of attractions for Chinese travellers, including Buddhist heritage sites, Himalayan destinations, trekking routes, cultural experiences and spiritual tourism products.

The discussions between the Sichuan delegation and the Nepal Tourism Board are expected to contribute to stronger tourism cooperation and promote greater people-to-people exchanges between Nepal and China.

The visit also reflects efforts by both sides to expand cooperation beyond traditional tourism promotion and develop more collaborative approaches to destination marketing, cultural exchange and sustainable tourism development.
