The Government of Nepal has appointed Mukesh Dangol, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, as the acting Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).
The position had remained vacant after former Director General Pradeep Adhikari was named in a corruption case filed by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) at the Special Court.
Leadership Gap Filled After Corruption Case
Following the CIAA’s decision to file charges against Adhikari, the top leadership post at CAAN became vacant, raising concerns about continuity in the country’s aviation regulatory operations. The Ministry confirmed that the appointment was necessary to ensure smooth functioning of the authority during a sensitive period for Nepal’s aviation sector.
Prime Minister’s Decision Clears the Way
According to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, the decision to assign Dangol additional responsibility was made at the level of the Prime Minister and ministerial leadership. The Ministry stated that until further arrangements are made, Joint Secretary Dangol will oversee all duties of the Director General to maintain regulatory stability.
Ensuring Continuity in Civil Aviation Operations
As Nepal continues its efforts to strengthen aviation safety, upgrade infrastructure, and comply with international aviation standards, the appointment of an interim head is seen as crucial.
Dangol is expected to lead CAAN’s day-to-day operations, coordinate ongoing aviation reforms, and ensure uninterrupted regulatory functions until a permanent appointment is finalized.
