Emirates Skywards Launches ‘Skywards Rail’, Allowing Members to Redeem Miles Across 12,000 European Rail Destinations

Emirates Skywards, the award-winning loyalty programme of Emirates and flydubai, has expanded its travel rewards ecosystem with the launch of Skywards Rail, a new platform that enables members to redeem their Skywards Miles for rail travel across Europe. The initiative significantly broadens the programme beyond air travel, giving members access to more than 12,000 rail destinations through over 40 major rail operators in 12 European countries. The newly launched service allows members to use their accumulated Skywards Miles to purchase rail tickets through a dedicated online booking platform, providing travellers with greater flexibility to combine flights and rail journeys into a seamless travel experience.

Loyalty Programme Expands Beyond Air Travel

With the introduction of Skywards Rail, Emirates Skywards members can now redeem their Miles for domestic, international and high-speed train journeys across Europe. The dedicated booking platform enables users to search train schedules, compare travel options, select cabins and ticket types, and complete bookings entirely online or through mobile devices.

The platform supports five languages, making it accessible to Emirates’ diverse global customer base. Members also have the flexibility to pay entirely with Skywards Miles or combine Cash + Miles to complete their bookings. In addition, Skywards Miles can be used to purchase rail tickets for family members and friends, while electronic tickets are delivered directly via email for added convenience. The launch reflects Emirates Skywards’ strategy of transforming its loyalty programme into a broader travel and lifestyle platform, offering members more ways to utilise their accumulated rewards beyond airline tickets.

Skywards Rail connects travellers with an extensive network of Europe’s leading railway operators, including Eurostar, Deutsche Bahn, SNCF, Trenitalia, TGV, Renfe and ÖBB, alongside major rail services in the United Kingdom such as Heathrow Express, Gatwick Express, Thameslink, Great Western Railway and ScotRail. The expanded network provides members with convenient access to some of Europe’s busiest travel corridors, making it easier to connect major cities or continue their journey after arriving on an Emirates or flydubai flight. The initiative is expected to appeal to both leisure and business travellers seeking integrated transport options while exploring multiple destinations across Europe.

Emirates Highlights Greater Flexibility for Members

Commenting on the launch, Dr Nejib Ben Khedher, Divisional Senior Vice President of Emirates Skywards, said members are increasingly looking for more flexible ways to redeem their loyalty rewards. He said the introduction of Skywards Rail expands the programme beyond traditional air travel, allowing members to create seamless travel experiences using their Miles for journeys between major European cities, onward connections after Emirates or flydubai flights, or discovering entirely new destinations. According to Dr Ben Khedher, the initiative reflects Emirates Skywards’ ongoing commitment to offering members more choice, greater value and rewarding travel experiences throughout every stage of their journey.

Strengthening the Evolution of a Lifestyle Loyalty Programme

The introduction of Skywards Rail forms part of Emirates Skywards’ broader strategy to evolve from a conventional frequent flyer programme into a comprehensive lifestyle loyalty platform. By expanding redemption opportunities beyond flights, the programme aims to provide members with greater flexibility while encouraging integrated travel experiences across different modes of transportation. The addition of rail travel complements the programme’s existing portfolio of rewards, allowing members to plan multi-city European itineraries using a single loyalty currency while reducing the need for separate booking platforms.

Award-Winning Programme Continues Global Growth

Since its launch in 2000, Emirates Skywards has grown into one of the world’s leading airline loyalty programmes, serving travellers across an extensive international network. Having recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, the programme now has more than 39 million members across 190 countries, with approximately 78,000 new members joining every week. The continued expansion of redemption options reflects Emirates’ efforts to enhance customer engagement while adapting to evolving travel preferences, where passengers increasingly seek integrated, flexible and personalised travel experiences.

Enhancing Europe’s Connected Travel Experience

The launch of Skywards Rail also aligns with the growing popularity of rail travel across Europe, where high-speed rail networks have become an efficient and sustainable mode of transportation between major cities. By enabling travellers to combine long-haul Emirates flights with Europe’s extensive railway network, the programme offers greater convenience for passengers wishing to extend their journeys beyond airport gateways. As demand for integrated travel solutions continues to grow, the addition of rail travel to the Emirates Skywards ecosystem represents another step towards creating a more connected and seamless travel experience for millions of members worldwide.
