Harpreet Singh “Harry” Cheema and Navneet Kaur “Nav” Cheema, a husband-and-wife/ couple mountaineering duo based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, have made history as the first Indian-born married couple, and the first Sikh couple in the world, to successfully climb all Seven Summits, the tallest peaks on each of the seven continents. Their remarkable achievement represents not just a mountaineering triumph, but a powerful story of shared purpose, endurance, and devotion.
Originally from India, Harry from Sangrur, Punjab, and Nav from New Delhi, the couple’s accomplishment has been hailed as a proud moment for India, the United States, and the global Sikh community. According to 14 Peaks Expedition, the organizer of their climbs, fewer than five couples in the world have ever achieved this rare feat together.
The Journey to the Top of the World
The Cheemas’ journey began in 2019 with their ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Over six years, they braved extreme conditions, diverse terrains, and the world’s most challenging environments to achieve what only a handful have dared. Their Seven Summits journey includes:

Their journey captured global attention in May 2024, when they successfully summited Mount Everest, raising the Nishan Sahib, the sacred Sikh flag, at 8,849 meters above sea level. The couple recited Gagan Main Thaal, a Sikh prayer symbolizing universal peace, equality, and harmony, reflecting the Sikh principles of Nirbhau, Nirvair, “Without Fear, Without Hate.”
The Final Climb and Global Recognition
Their final ascent on October 29, 2025, to the summit of Carstensz Pyramid in Papua, Indonesia, marked the end of their Seven Summits challenge. Known for its steep limestone walls and remote location, Carstensz Pyramid is considered one of the most technically demanding peaks. Completing this climb was both a physical and spiritual culmination of years of perseverance, teamwork, and unwavering faith.
