The District Police Office in Chitwan has resumed the “Ghumau Chitwan” program, which allows police personnel to travel within the district and explore local tourist destinations. The initiative, temporarily halted due to Gen Z demonstrations and elections, has now restarted with renewed focus on promoting domestic tourism while providing relaxation opportunities for police officers.
Purpose and Activities of the Program
Under this program, police personnel working in different areas of the district are rotated to various locations where they can enjoy local tourist spots. Officials believe the program will not only enhance officer welfare but also contribute to domestic tourism promotion.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Govind Puri, the program includes activities such as boat rides, rafting, hiking, and other recreational experiences within Chitwan National Park. In addition, officers participate in creative, recreational, and team-building activities that foster camaraderie, knowledge sharing, and stress management.
Expanding the Experience Beyond Chitwan
SP Puri explained that officers also visit neighboring districts to experience regional tourist attractions, engage in diverse activities, and gain knowledge about local geography. The initiative, which began about a year ago, provides officers with both physical relaxation and educational benefits while rotating from one location to another. “The program revitalizes our police personnel and equips them with a better understanding of different geographies, all while promoting tourism,” he said.
Strengthening the Police Service and Local Tourism
Chitwan District Police Office currently has around 900 personnel operating across 73 units, including district traffic and eight local areas. Through “Ghumau Chitwan,” officers gain firsthand exposure to local attractions, which also supports the broader goal of boosting domestic tourism in the region.
The program represents a creative effort by the police department to combine professional development, wellness, and tourism promotion, benefiting both personnel and local communities.
