Green Himalayan Farm Stay Ignites Growth in Rural Business and Tourism in Tanahun

In Chiti Khola, Bhanu Municipality-9 of Tanahun, residents have found support in infrastructure development, which has helped them return to their villages. Geeta Adhikari Pandey, who returned to her village four years ago and began utilizing old houses and unused land, has advanced rural entrepreneurship.

She has created a model of rural entrepreneurship with her establishment of “Green Himalayan Farm Stay,” a mix of traditional and modern styles. The farm operates on 75 ropanis of land, where traditional structures are maintained while adding modern elements to cater to tourists. Geeta has invested 2 crore rupees to develop the farm, providing modern services while preserving traditional architecture.

This farm stay has gained significant popularity among domestic tourists, particularly during holidays, thanks to its seamless fusion of traditional charm and contemporary comfort. It offers a range of eco-friendly accommodations, such as a uniquely designed round-shaped Magar house, a tree house nestled under a lush lychee tree, and Nepal’s first commercially built barrel house. The emphasis on sustainable, green living is reflected in the natural surroundings and energy-efficient infrastructure, making it an attractive option for those seeking a green getaway.

The property not only provides a glimpse into local culture through its traditional houses but also integrates modern, environmentally-conscious amenities to cater to eco-tourism enthusiasts. The focus on sustainability is evident in the use of natural materials, renewable energy sources, and green practices that reduce the overall carbon footprint. Whether staying in the tree house amidst the rich greenery or the barrel house designed with eco-friendly principles in mind, visitors can enjoy an unforgettable experience that harmonizes with nature. This farm stay is perfect for those seeking a peaceful, green retreat that combines tradition, innovation, and sustainability.

Located approximately 20 kilometers from Dumre market in Tanahun, the farm is committed to fostering rural tourism. It emphasizes sustainability and promotes eco-friendly practices by offering fresh, organic food grown directly on the farm. Geeta Pandey highlighted that the farm produces all ingredients, except salt, sugar, and spices, using environmentally conscious farming methods. This dedication to green practices ensures that guests enjoy healthy, organic food while supporting sustainable agriculture.

The farm actively supports local farmers by encouraging sustainable and organic agricultural practices. It cultivates fresh produce and raises livestock on-site, ensuring that guests are served high-quality, farm-to-table meals. By prioritizing organic farming, the farm not only promotes eco-friendly food production but also strengthens the local agricultural community, fostering a more sustainable way of living.

Beyond agriculture, the farm is committed to empowering the local community by creating employment opportunities. Its mission is to provide a sustainable livelihood for residents, enabling them to stay in their village rather than seeking work elsewhere. By integrating tourism with rural development, the farm contributes to economic growth while preserving traditional farming practices and strengthening the local economy.

This initiative has had a positive impact on the local community by boosting the demand for locally sourced products. The farm, which can host approximately 25 to 30 guests at a time, provides comfortable rooms equipped with modern amenities, ensuring a pleasant stay for visitors. Guests are welcomed with a warm hospitality experience, complemented by organic, homegrown food, which enhances the overall appeal of the location.

Thanks to its exceptional service, excellent facilities, and the stunning natural environment, the farm has gained popularity among domestic tourists. The serene surroundings and the focus on sustainability make it an attractive destination for those seeking a peaceful retreat. As more visitors experience the farm’s offerings, the demand for local goods and services continues to grow, contributing to the economic well-being of the surrounding community.

Tanahun’s Nepal Journalists Association president, DP Adhikari, praised the farm’s hospitality and organic food, which has helped make it a popular destination for internal travelers.

The farm, surrounded by beautiful mountains and stunning views, is helping drive the development of rural infrastructure and entrepreneurship, contributing to the area’s growth and providing a model for other rural communities.
