Heavy snowfall has severely affected daily life in Manang district, leaving several tourists stranded along trekking routes. Security agencies have been working since early morning to rescue those trapped in snow, but lack of vehicles has made the operation challenging.
Rescue Efforts Hindered by Vehicle Shortage due to Snowfall
Chief District Officer (CDO) Nawaraj Paudhyal informed that rescuers are facing difficulties due to insufficient transport. “We are conducting rescue operations for stranded tourists, but the snow has also immobilized vehicles, making it difficult to evacuate everyone. There is a shortage of alternative transport,” CDO Paudhyal stated.
Tourists stranded at Tilicho Base Camp have been successfully rescued, while arrangements for others have been made at Khangsar, he added. Security personnel have cleared snow along 25 kilometers of road, ensuring smoother movement in affected areas.
Tourist Safety and Accommodation Arrangements
Local tourism operators confirmed that some tourists have been provided temporary shelter in their homes, while others have been accommodated in private lodges. All foreign tourists are reported to be safe and accounted for, according to local sources.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and urge travelers to exercise caution when moving through high-altitude regions prone to snowfall. The incident highlights the ongoing challenges of managing tourism and mobility in Nepal’s remote Himalayan areas during extreme weather conditions.
