Hotels in the Lakeside area of Pokhara have recorded over 90 percent occupancy as a surge of domestic tourists arrived to celebrate the Nepali New Year. The popular tourist hub has seen a significant rise in visitors from different parts of the country, leading to near-full bookings across major hotels.
Hospitality Sector Witnesses Seasonal Boom
According to Laxman Subedi, President of the Hotel Association Pokhara Nepal, the high occupancy rate is primarily driven by the influx of domestic travelers visiting Pokhara for New Year celebrations. He noted that hotels across Lakeside have been operating at almost full capacity during this peak period.
Fewa New Year Festival Boosts Visitor Numbers
Subedi also credited the ongoing Fewa New Year Festival for the increase in tourist arrivals. The 21st edition of the festival, organized by the association, has played a key role in attracting visitors by offering cultural programs, entertainment, and local experiences, further strengthening the tourism city appeal as a festive destination.
Pokhara’s Growing Reputation as Tourism Capital
Tourism entrepreneurs highlight that Pokhara’s growing popularity is the result of its unique blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and adventure tourism opportunities. The city’s recognition as Nepal’s “tourism capital,” along with continuous promotional efforts, has contributed to the steady rise in visitor numbers in recent years.
Strong Accommodation Capacity in the Region
Approximately 1,200 hotels are operating in the Pokhara area, with the capacity to accommodate up to 40,000 tourists per day, according to Subedi. The current high occupancy levels reflect both the city’s strong tourism infrastructure and its increasing demand during major holidays and festivals.
