Trekkers heading toward the Manaslu Circuit and Larkya Pass have been urged to suspend their journeys after flooding in Namrung damaged key bridges and disrupted the trekking route in Chumnubri Rural Municipality. The Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP) has issued a safety advisory for trekkers, visitors, residents and tourism stakeholders following a flood in the Namrung area of Chumnubri Rural Municipality–4, Gorkha. According to the notice issued by the District Administration Office, Gorkha, the flooding occurred at around 3:30 a.m. on September 6, 2026, after the Therang Khola experienced a sudden rise in water.
Key Bridges Washed Away, Route Disrupted
The flooding has caused significant damage to infrastructure along the trekking corridor. A steel bridge connecting Chumnubri Ward No. 4 and Ward No. 5 has reportedly been swept away. A suspension bridge over the Budhi Gandaki River leading toward Namrung Jungle has also been damaged or washed away.
The loss of these bridges has disrupted movement along sections of the trekking route and created potentially dangerous conditions for anyone attempting to continue toward Namrung. With crossings affected, trekkers may face strong river currents, unstable ground, damaged trails and other hazards in addition to the already difficult Himalayan terrain.
Trekkers Urged Not to Proceed Until Further Notice
In view of the current situation, authorities have requested that trekkers do not undertake or continue the Manaslu Circuit and Larkya Pass trekking routes until further notice.
MCAP has specifically urged visitors not to attempt crossing damaged bridges, swollen rivers or other hazardous sections of the trail.
Trekkers who are already in the Manaslu region are advised to follow instructions from local authorities, security personnel and MCAP officials rather than attempting to bypass damaged sections independently. The advisory is particularly important for international trekkers and trekking agencies preparing for the autumn trekking season, as the Manaslu region is one of Nepal’s major high-altitude trekking destinations.
