Master Chef Santosh Sah has expanded his culinary empire with the launch of the ‘Mithila Thali’ restaurant, now in its second year under the BBC Group. Originating from Mithila, the restaurant debuted in Janakpur on Ashadh 6 last year, highlighting locally sourced ingredients sourced from traditional kitchens.
In just two years, the BBC Group has rapidly expanded the Mithila Thali concept to three branches across Kathmandu. Mr. Sah’s dedication to showcasing authentic Mithila cuisine led to the initial launch in Jhamsikhel, followed by successful openings in Gaushala and Gairidhara within the second year.
“We started in Janakpur and expanded to Jhamsikhel in Kathmandu,” Mr. Sah explained, “and now, we’re thrilled to announce our newest outlet in Gaushala. Soon, we’ll be opening another restaurant in Naxal in just a few days.”
The Gaushala location will exclusively feature a vegetarian menu, catering particularly to visitors of the nearby Pashupatinath Temple. Central to the Mithila Thali concept is the offering of 17 diverse dishes in a single thali, ensuring a unique dining experience.
Beyond culinary expansions, Mr. Sah integrates cultural and artistic elements celebrating Mithila’s rich heritage into each restaurant’s ambiance. He encourages patrons to support Mithila artists by purchasing their artworks displayed within the establishments.
Since earning the title of Master Chef in 2020 and subsequently winning the Professional Rematch Champion in 2021, Mr. Sah continues to collaborate with BBC Group to expand its restaurant footprint. Alongside promoting culinary tourism, he tailors menus for each location in Jhamsikhel, Gaushala, and Gairidhara, offering customers a variety of new flavors to enjoy.
Looking ahead, Mr. Sah revealed plans to launch a Mithila Thali outlet in Ayodhya, India, next year, and to open a restaurant in Doha, Qatar’s capital. His ambitious vision includes further restaurant expansions across major cities in Nepal soon.
