Tourism Vehicles to Support Rescue Operations

Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents has decided to make transportation resources available for emergency operations wherever required. Under the decision, tourist buses, jeeps and other vehicles operated by NATTA member companies may be mobilized to assist with the rescue, evacuation and delivery of relief materials in affected areas. The association said such coordination would help provide faster transportation support where normal movement has been disrupted by flooding.

24-Hour Emergency Help Desk for Tourists

To assist travellers affected by the disaster, NATTA will establish a 24-hour Tourist Emergency Help Desk. The facility will focus particularly on domestic and international tourists who have been stranded because of the floods, helping facilitate communication, emergency assistance and coordination with the relevant authorities for their safe evacuation. NATTA also plans to establish a “Disaster Relief and Coordination Committee” under its leadership. The committee will oversee and coordinate relief and rescue activities with an emphasis on making the response organized, effective and transparent.

Appeal to Avoid High-Risk Areas

Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents has called on its member organizations, tourism entrepreneurs, social organizations and the general public to voluntarily participate in rescue and relief efforts. At the same time, the association has strongly urged tourism businesses and travellers not to travel to or facilitate travel to areas currently considered highly risky because of the flooding.

NATTA has further advised all stakeholders to base their travel and safety decisions only on official information and updates issued by authorized government agencies and relevant authorities. The appeal was issued by Raj Kumar Devkota, General Secretary of NATTA, as the association seeks greater coordination across the tourism sector to support emergency rescue and relief operations.
