NTB Leads Delegation to Expand Global Tourism Outreach at ITB Berlin

Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) led a delegation of Nepali tourism entrepreneurs to ITB Berlin 2026, promoting Nepal as a premier destination for adventure, cultural, and sustainable tourism. Nepal strengthened its global tourism outreach by participating in ITB Berlin 2026, the world’s largest travel trade exhibition, held from March 3–5, 2026 in Berlin, Germany. The participation was coordinated by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) together with 25 Nepali tourism companies, showcasing the country’s diverse travel experiences to the international tourism community.

The three-day business-to-business event served as an important platform for Nepal to promote its tourism products, connect with international travel operators, and strengthen partnerships with global tourism stakeholders. Through exhibitions, meetings, and presentations, Nepal presented itself as a destination rich in natural landscapes, cultural heritage, adventure activities, and spiritual experiences.

Global Tourism Leaders Gather for the 60th Edition

The 2026 edition marked the 60th anniversary of ITB Berlin, celebrated under the theme “Discover the Stories Behind 60 Years of Legacy.” Over the decades, ITB Berlin has grown into one of the most influential travel trade events in the world.

The accompanying ITB Convention 2026 focused on the theme “Leading Tourism into Balance,” emphasizing sustainable and responsible tourism development. The event hosted around 5,800 exhibitors representing more than 171 countries, attracting over 100,000 travel industry professionals from across the globe. The exhibition also drew extensive media attention, with approximately 2,700 journalists and 300 travel bloggers covering the event alongside prominent tourism policymakers and political leaders.

The Nepal Pavilion drew considerable attention from global buyers and tourism professionals, highlighting Nepal’s strengths in mountain tourism, trekking, adventure sports, wildlife experiences, and cultural heritage. Tourism entrepreneurs engaged in discussions with international partners to explore new business opportunities and strengthen existing collaborations.

Despite challenges facing the global tourism industry, Nepal maintained a strong presence at the event with participation from 25 tourism companies, demonstrating the sector’s commitment to expanding Nepal’s global tourism footprint.

Germany Remains a Strategic Tourism Market

Germany continues to be one of Nepal’s most important tourism markets in Europe. In 2025, Nepal welcomed 30,227 visitors from Germany out of a total of 1,197,191 international arrivals, placing Germany among the top ten source markets for Nepal Tourism Board (NTB)’s tourism industry.

This steady flow of German tourists underscores the importance of maintaining strong engagement with the European travel market. Participation in ITB Berlin plays a key role in enhancing Nepal Tourism Board (NTB)’s visibility and strengthening relationships with travel companies and tourism professionals across Europe.

Nepal Promotes Responsible Tourism at ITB Spati

During the exhibition, Srijana Nepali, Senior Officer at the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), delivered a destination presentation at ITB Spati on March 4, 2026. Her presentation, titled “Nepal: Paving Paths for Responsible Tourism and Product Diversification,” highlighted Nepal’s commitment to sustainable tourism development and the introduction of new tourism products designed to benefit local communities.

One of the major initiatives presented was the Trail-Based Tourism (TBT) program, which has introduced four new trekking routes across the mid-hill regions of Koshi Province. These trails collectively span nearly 400 kilometers and aim to promote community-based tourism while preserving the environment.

The new trekking routes include the Mundum Trail, Chiyabari Trail, Phalgunanda Trail, and Laligurans Trail. The initiative focuses on trail development, destination branding, hospitality training, and policy incentives to encourage innovative tourism experiences.

Sustainable Tourism Project Supports Sector Recovery By Nepal Tourism Board (NTB)

Nepal also highlighted the Sustainable Tourism Project Nepal (STP), a collaborative initiative between the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and the United Nations Development Programme in Nepal. The project aims to strengthen tourism infrastructure, promote domestic tourism, enhance digital marketing strategies, and support inclusive tourism businesses following the COVID-19 pandemic. The program focuses on improving facilities along major trekking destinations such as the Api–Saipal Trekking Route, the Manaslu Region, and the Kanchenjunga Valley Base Camp Trek.

By upgrading infrastructure and supporting community enterprises, the project aims to create employment opportunities and increase tourist arrivals through innovative marketing and policy support.
