A tragic update has emerged from Russia, where a passenger aircraft that went missing earlier this week has been found crashed in a remote, forested region near Tynda. The Antonov An-24 aircraft, which had lost contact with air traffic control shortly after passing Tynda, has been discovered wrecked in a steep and heavily wooded area.
Aircraft Went Missing on Wednesday Night
The aircraft was on a scheduled flight from Khabarovsk to Blagoveshchensk, with a final destination of Tynda, when it disappeared from radar late Wednesday night. Shortly after taking off, all communication was lost, prompting emergency teams to launch a massive aerial search operation.
Wreckage Spotted in Remote Siberian Forest
According to Russia’s state news agency TASS, the wreckage of the aircraft was located several miles from Tynda Airport in a mountainous forest. Rescue helicopters, dispatched to locate the plane, reportedly saw smoke rising from the forest before identifying the debris of the crashed aircraft from the air.
International media outlets, citing Russian authorities, confirmed that rescue teams were able to visually confirm the plane’s remains from the sky. Officials described the scene as a complete wreck, with significant fire damage suggesting the aircraft caught fire following the crash.

No Signs of Survivors
Rescue teams, who were immediately deployed to the site, have indicated that there are likely no survivors. “Given the intensity of the fire and the condition of the wreckage, there is little to no hope of finding anyone alive,” stated a source quoted by TASS.
The aircraft was carrying a total of 49 people, 6 crew members and 43 passengers, including five children. The identities of the victims have not yet been released pending formal confirmation and notification of families.

Awaiting Official Confirmation
While the Russian government has yet to release a formal statement confirming the crash, local officials and media have validated the discovery of the wreckage. Photos and videos from the crash site have also surfaced on local social media channels, lending further credibility to the reports.
Emergency services and aviation authorities are currently securing the site and beginning investigations to determine the exact cause of the crash. Early speculation suggests poor weather may have contributed to the tragic incident.
Another Blow to Russian Aviation Safety
This incident adds to a troubling history of aviation disasters in Russia’s vast and often treacherous territories. The challenging topography and unpredictable weather, combined with aging aircraft fleets on some regional routes, continue to pose serious risks.
Authorities are expected to hold a press briefing soon, and a formal inquiry has already been launched into the cause of the accident. Meanwhile, support teams have been mobilized to assist the families of those on board. The nation mourns yet another devastating aviation loss, as hopes for finding survivors fade.
