Pokhara Gears Up for 25th Annual Road Festival to Welcome English New Year

The Restaurant and Bar Association of Pokhara (REBAN) has announced the much-anticipated English New Year Welcoming Road Festival in the vibrant Lakeside area of Pokhara, Nepal’s tourism capital. Scheduled from December 28, 2024 (Poush 13) to January 1, 2025 (Poush 17), the festival will transform a 3-kilometer stretch of Lakeside into a hub of celebration under the theme “Eat on the Road, Enjoy on the Road.”

This iconic event, now in its 25th year, has played a pivotal role in promoting Pokhara as a premier New Year destination for both domestic and international tourists. Historically, many Nepalese and foreign tourists would seek celebrations abroad during the New Year. However, the continuity of this festival has reversed that trend, establishing Pokhara as a festive hotspot and significantly boosting tourist arrivals.

The festival offers a rich tapestry of activities, including live concerts, traditional cultural displays, sports competitions such as boat races and tug-of-war, food exhibitions featuring local and international cuisines, and awareness street dramas. Highlights also include ethnic costume displays, painting and sculpture exhibitions, and talks focusing on Pokhara’s tourism opportunities and challenges. Adventure sports documentaries and local handicrafts, agricultural products, and plants will also be showcased, enhancing the cultural and economic significance of the event.

Supported by prominent sponsors like Gorkha Brewery’s Tuborg Beer, Jack Daniel’s, Pepsi, Zinc, and Khukuri Rum, and with collaboration from the Nepal Tourism Board, Pokhara Metropolitan Corporation, the Gandaki Province Government, and the Pokhara Tourism Council, the festival promises to be a grand affair.

Festival organizers are inviting suggestions to make the event more innovative and attractive, ensuring it caters to diverse audiences. They have also encouraged local businesses to participate actively, enhancing their visibility through creative decorations and product showcases.

The event underscores its mission of fostering economic activity, earning foreign currency, creating employment, and preserving endangered cultural traditions. Organizers expressed their gratitude to the media for its ongoing support and look forward to welcoming enthusiastic participation to make the festival a resounding success.
