Prime Minister Oli Commits to Strengthening Tourism Development in Solukhumbu

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing tourism infrastructure in Solukhumbu, highlighting the significant role the region plays in Nepal’s tourism industry. Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Dhimdojri Sherpa Tourism Road in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-2, Surke, Prime Minister Oli stated that the government is dedicated to strengthening the region’s developmental infrastructure.

He emphasized that the federal and provincial governments would collaborate on the upgrading of this tourism road, with both governments responsible for its blacktopping. “The government will leave no stone unturned in the development efforts of this district,” Prime Minister Oli said. “With the birthplace of national icons such as Pasang Lhamu Sherpa and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, renowned figures in the world of mountaineering, further development in Khumbu will greatly contribute to promoting tourism.”

Prime Minister Oli reiterated the government’s firm commitment to expanding and upgrading the road network in the Khumbu area, which is renowned for its adventure tourism and cultural significance. He stressed the need to build essential infrastructure that would enhance the region’s appeal to both adventure and cultural tourists. “Solukhumbu is a district brimming with tourism potential. As the gateway to Mount Everest, the region has long attracted adventure tourists,” he noted. “The government is ready to advance development programs that will economically empower the local community and boost tourism.”

The Prime Minister expressed his confidence that upgrading the road and expanding infrastructure would elevate the tourism business to new heights. He highlighted that the improved road would not only provide easier transportation for the residents of Khumbu but also contribute significantly to the region’s economic and social development. The road’s completion is expected to make the region more accessible, thus fostering economic growth and contributing to tourism’s historical legacy.

The government’s efforts are focused on making Solukhumbu a key tourism destination. By improving infrastructure, such as roads and access points, the government aims to further cement Khumbu’s reputation as a premier location for adventure tourism, particularly mountaineering, and to ensure the region’s socio-economic upliftment. The continued development of this tourism infrastructure is anticipated to enhance the area’s appeal as a cultural and adventurous hub.

With the completion of these projects, Solukhumbu is poised to make a significant contribution to Nepal’s tourism industry while preserving its rich cultural heritage and natural beauty.
