Rainfall Alert: Thunder and Lightning to Hit Hilly Areas Today

Rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely to occur in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces today, as per the latest weather update from the Weather Forecasting Division. Meteorologist Govinda Kumar Jha has stated that the rainfall is a result of a combination of local winds and the partial influence of the westerly winds. With pre-monsoon activities becoming active, the possibility of rain in the afternoon remains high, while the weather is expected to remain generally clear at night.

Since Wednesday evening, light to moderate rainfall has been recorded in various hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces. The ongoing weather pattern has led to cloudy skies in different parts of the country, including the Kathmandu Valley, over the past few days. However, the Division has confirmed that there is no significant chance of rainfall tonight, as the weather system responsible for rain has moved eastward, exiting through Koshi Province.

The overcast conditions and sudden rain showers have also affected air traffic in Nepal. Tribhuvan International Airport reported delays in both domestic and international flights on Wednesday afternoon due to low visibility caused by the adverse weather. Flights were temporarily put on hold mid-air as a precautionary measure to ensure passenger safety.

As Nepal transitions into the pre-monsoon season, weather fluctuations are becoming more prominent, with sporadic rainfall and thunderstorms occurring across different provinces. The Meteorological Department advises travelers and residents in the affected regions to stay updated with weather forecasts and take necessary precautions against potential lightning hazards.
