Second Nepal-China Friendly Dragon Boat Race to Promote Tourism in Pokhara

The Second Nepal-China Friendly Dragon Boat Race is scheduled to take place on December 29-30, 2024, at the scenic Fewa Lake in Pokhara. Designed to promote Nepal’s tourism through cultural exchange and strengthen people-to-people connections, the event will see participation from 20 teams. These include 11 teams from Nepal, 8 from China, and 1 from Singapore, competing in exhilarating 200-meter and 500-meter races.

During a press conference held in Kathmandu on December 22, 2024, the organizers announced the prize structure, with $5,000 awarded to the first-place team, $2,000 for second place, and $1,200 for third. The remaining teams will receive $500 each as a token of appreciation. The event is a collaborative effort involving the Gandaki Province Government, Pokhara Metropolitan City, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, and the Nepal Tourism Board. Co-organizers include the Nepal Dragon Boat Association, Pokhara Tourism Council, and the Pokhara Overseas Chinese Association.

The Dragon Boat Festival, listed as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, is a prominent cultural celebration in China and is gaining popularity worldwide. This initiative not only strengthens Nepal-China cultural ties but also enhances Pokhara’s global appeal as a premier tourist destination.
