Sichuan Airlines Completes First Promotional Flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu

Sichuan Airlines successfully conducted its maiden promotional flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu on Thursday, marking a significant milestone in Nepal’s aviation sector. The Airbus 319 carried 126 passengers from Pokhara to Kathmandu, following an earlier flight from Chengdu to Pokhara with 129 passengers on board.

This historic Pokhara-Kathmandu flight is the first international flight from the newly upgraded Pokhara Airport. The promotional flight was non-commercial and aimed at demonstrating the airport’s technical capabilities, according to Pradeep Adhikari, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).

Adhikari emphasized that the flight’s success sends a strong message about the airport’s readiness. “This flight, conducted at full capacity, disproves the misconception that flights are impossible due to the hilly terrain and runway conditions,” he stated. Adhikari further highlighted that Pokhara Airport is capable of hosting regular flights operated by narrow-body aircraft.

The CAAN informed that the promotional flight served as a precursor to future operations, allowing planes departing from Pokhara to transit to Kathmandu or even fly directly to international destinations.

The successful completion of this promotional flight underscores the potential for increased connectivity and tourism opportunities through Pokhara Airport, paving the way for more airlines to explore this route.
