Sri Lanka has generated nearly USD 2.066 billion in tourism revenue during the first ten months of 2025, according to data released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. This marks a 4.9 percent increase compared to the same period last year, reflecting steady recovery in the country’s tourism sector. The central bank noted that in June alone, Sri Lanka earned more than USD 186 million from tourism, demonstrating sustained momentum in visitor arrivals and spending.
Over 1.9 Million Tourists Arrive in 2025
As per statistics from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), the country welcomed over 1.9 million international tourists from the beginning of 2025 up to November 14 (Kartik 29). India remained the largest source market, contributing the highest number of visitors. Following India, the United Kingdom, Russia, Germany, and China emerged as the top tourist-generating nations, with each sending more than 100,000 visitors during the period.

Positive Impact on Local Economy
The resurgence of tourism has brought a noticeable boost to hotels, transportation services, and hospitality-related businesses across the country. Local economies in key tourist regions have also benefited from increased spending and employment opportunities.

Officials stated that Sri Lanka views its growing tourism numbers as a crucial driver for economic recovery, particularly as the nation continues efforts to stabilize its economy and attract foreign exchange.
A Strong Foundation for Economic Revival
With inbound tourism continuing to rise and global travel gradually normalizing, Sri Lanka is positioning the sector as a cornerstone of its economic revitalization strategy. Tourism authorities are optimistic that sustained international arrivals, combined with targeted promotional campaigns, will further strengthen the sector in the coming months.
