Vietnam’s Sun Phu Quoc Airways has launched its first-ever direct charter flights connecting Nepal with Phu Quoc, one of Vietnam’s most popular island destinations, opening a new direct air travel option for Nepali travelers.
The airline has scheduled three special charter flights on October 18, 23 and 28, 2026. The first flight was operated on October 18, marking the beginning of direct air connectivity between Kathmandu and Phu Quoc.
Flights Target Holiday Travel Season of Sun Phu Quoc Airways
The charter flights have been introduced targeting the Dashain-Tihar and holiday travel season, with expectations that the new connectivity will help increase tourist movement between Nepal and Vietnam.
The airline is operating the charter service using an Airbus A321neo aircraft. According to the published schedule, the flight from Phu Quoc to Kathmandu departs at 3:45 a.m. and arrives at Tribhuvan International Airport at 6:25 a.m.
Similarly, the Kathmandu-Phu Quoc flight is scheduled to depart Kathmandu at 7:55 a.m. and arrive in Phu Quoc at 1 p.m.
Sun Phu Quoc Airways Expands Regional Network
Sun Phu Quoc Airways, operated under Vietnam’s Sun Group, began commercial operations on November 1, 2025. The airline has been expanding its domestic and regional international network and has selected Nepal as one of its destinations in South Asia.
The launch of direct charter flights is expected to strengthen air connectivity between Nepal and Vietnam while creating new opportunities for tourism cooperation between the two countries.
Special Holiday Packages Planned for Nepali Travelers
In collaboration with local travel service providers in Nepal, the airline is preparing special holiday packages for travelers visiting Phu Quoc, along with promotional airfares.
Phu Quoc is known for its beaches, resorts, marine activities and tropical island experiences, making it an increasingly attractive holiday destination for international travelers.
The direct service is expected to make travel to Vietnam more convenient for Nepali tourists by eliminating the need for connecting flights. At the same time, improved connectivity could encourage more Vietnamese travelers to visit Nepal.
New Opportunity for Nepal-Vietnam Tourism
The direct charter flights are being viewed as an important opportunity to expand tourism, hospitality and aviation links between Nepal and Vietnam.
Industry stakeholders expect the new air connection to support greater tourist movement in both directions and provide a foundation for further expansion of direct connectivity between Nepal and Vietnam.
