Despite the tension, the procession continued. But tragedy struck when it was discovered that the bride, traveling in a palanquin, had taken her own life. Soon after, mysterious illnesses began affecting nearby villages. A local shaman, or Jhankri, revealed that the spirit of the deceased princess had transformed into a divine presence, demanding reverence. Acting on this belief, villagers began worshipping the very spot where the incident occurred, eventually giving rise to the temple that stands today.

The formal establishment of the temple dates back to 1600 B.S., when King Biswa Pal Shah of the Khanchi region commissioned its construction. Built in memory of his daughter Subarna Kumari, the temple was dedicated to Goddess Bhagwati, symbolizing both devotion and remembrance.

Regular prayer rituals became a structured practice from 2040 B.S., and just two years later, a new pagoda-style structure was erected, enhancing its architectural beauty.
