TikTok, in partnership with the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), has launched a series of workshops designed to equip local tourism entrepreneurs, travel content creators, trekkers, and mountaineers with practical skills in content creation and digital storytelling. The initiative, branded under the #VisitNepal banner, aims to showcase Nepal’s extraordinary landscapes, cultural heritage, gastronomy, and adventure experiences to global audiences, while simultaneously helping travellers discover both the country’s iconic destinations and its lesser-known hidden gems.
Three Days of Hands-On Learning
The workshop series, structured over three days, will bring together participants from across Nepal’s diverse tourism ecosystem to learn industry best practices in a range of digital skills. The curriculum covers short-form video creation, audience engagement strategies, digital storytelling techniques, audience growth methods, brand collaborations, and responsible content development, a comprehensive scope designed to take participants from foundational understanding through to practical, applicable skill.

As part of this effort, TikTok will provide direct training to local small and medium-sized enterprises, including tourism operators and trekking guides, focusing specifically on how to effectively use the platform to showcase their products and services to wider, often international, audiences who increasingly discover travel destinations through short-form video content via Tiktok rather than traditional marketing channels.
NTB Leadership Highlights the Strategic Timing
Officiating CEO of the Nepal Tourism Board, Hikmat Singh Ayer, framed the initiative as a timely and necessary step in modernising Nepal’s tourism promotion strategy. “This is the right time to transform tourism promotion through digital innovation,” he said. “Nepal’s rich culture, pristine nature, unique wildlife, and renowned hospitality must be presented creatively and effectively to global audiences through digital platforms.”
Ayer further emphasised the broader strategic value of the workshop series beyond individual skill-building. “This workshop strengthens our knowledge, enhances our connection with international markets, and helps us communicate with one voice through digital media,” he said. “By embracing digital tools, we can showcase Nepal’s tourism products more effectively on the global stage.”
Building a Sustainable Tourism Creator Community
Sunil Sharma, Spokesperson for the Nepal Tourism Board, situated the initiative within the broader evolution of how travellers discover destinations today. “As digital platforms continue to shape how people discover places, cultures, and experiences, content creators are playing an increasingly important role in inspiring travel and connecting audiences with destinations around the world,” Sharma said.
He elaborated on the collaborative intent behind the programme. “Through this collaboration with TikTok, we are bringing together local tourism businesses, content creators and travel enthusiasts to strengthen their storytelling skills and support Nepal’s growing tourism creator community,” he said. “A primary objective is to nurture local talent and equip them with the skills required to become professional content creators, thereby supporting the growth of the digital economy.”
This emphasis on professionalisation is notable, suggesting the NTB views the initiative not merely as a marketing exercise for tourism promotion, but as a genuine workforce development opportunity capable of generating new economic pathways for Nepali creators within the digital economy.
TikTok’s Perspective on the Partnership
Ferdous Mottakin, Head of Public Policy and Government Relations for South Asia at TikTok, spoke to the platform’s broader role in shaping how people engage with travel content globally. “From breathtaking destinations and unique travel experiences to local cuisines and cultural traditions, TikTok has transformed the way people discover and experience the world around them,” Mottakin said.
He expressed enthusiasm about the partnership’s potential impact within Nepal specifically. “We are excited to partner with the Nepal Tourism Board to empower local tourism businesses, creators, and communities with digital storytelling skills, helping them share Nepal’s extraordinary beauty and rich heritage with audiences around the world,” he said.

What the Workshops Will Offer Participants
The workshops have been designed to combine theoretical and practical elements, featuring interactive learning sessions, hands-on content creation guidance, and discussions with industry professionals. This structure is intended to provide participants with valuable insights into creating genuinely engaging content, while also helping them build meaningful, lasting connections with audiences through effective digital storytelling techniques, skills that extend well beyond a single platform or campaign and into long-term content creation capability.
A Strategic Bet on Creator-Led Tourism Marketing
The TikTok-NTB partnership reflects a broader global shift in how destinations are increasingly choosing to market themselves, moving away from exclusive reliance on traditional advertising and toward empowering authentic, locally rooted voices to tell their own stories. For Nepal, a country whose tourism appeal rests heavily on its natural beauty, cultural depth, and adventure tourism offerings, equipping local entrepreneurs, guides, and creators with professional-grade digital storytelling skills represents a potentially powerful and cost-effective complement to conventional tourism marketing efforts, with the added benefit of building lasting digital economy capacity within Nepal’s tourism communities.
